learning how to eat well

it’s been said that it takes up to 3 years to change most bad eating habits permanently…

yet, it is probably also one of the most important parts of living well and getting (and staying) fit, and looking the best you can. no wonder that we all try to find a faster and easier way of handling this dilemma. so we are looking for diets, ‘new techniques’, meal plans – even specially designed foods to help us. but, no matter how hard we try with all these shortcuts, we don’t seem to get where we want to be – america still is the fattest nation on earth.  i believe its time to change that all; to take the bull by the horns and simply learn how to eat well.

10 steps of eating on your way to wellness and fitness:

(chose whichever one you want to start with and learn it well - then go to the next one)

 1 – stop dieting!

2 - eat often – typically, the best nutritional intake for you body would be a small meal each 2 to 3 hrs.

3 – eat a big variety of foods

4 – make sure you drink lots of water (minimum 64 oz. per day)

5 – eat the right amount of calories over the course of the day.

(to calculate your personal caloric needs, go to:  Daily Calorie Needs )

6 – balance the three major components: carbohydrates, fats, and protein

7 – watch the intake of saturated fats

8 – watch the intake of simple sugars
