I have current and potential Ballroom and Latin dance students ask me all the time about where to buy things, where to go to dance, and a wide variety of other dance questions. I am always willing to share the names of the dance studios, costume designers, dance shoes retailers - basically all things dance.

Here are some of my favorite dance providers online and in the San Diego area.

SAN DIEGO DANCE STUDIOS:

I teach classes at both Infinity Dancesport Studio in Kearny Mesa and at Champion Ballroom in Hillcrest. I also am a regular at their dance parties. check my dance classes and events page to see which weeks I'm at each.

If you are in North County, I enjoy the facilities and special workshops held at Dance Motion Studios in Encinitas. http://www.dancemotionstudios.com

BALLROOM AND LATIN DANCE COMPETITION DRESSES AND CLOTHES:

Some of my students decide to become ballroom dance competitors. As they advance, it means costumes. There are a lot of online retailers of competition gowns. My students have had favorable experiences with these:

With Acapulco Paradiso you take a long list of measurements, and they custom make your Ballroom or Latin dance gown to fit you, more or less. Tailoring is still required.

While they have limited styles (and tend to be more revealing than many students want), For-T fashions in Romania has highly affordable dresses. Their sizing isn't as exact, so tailoring will definitely be required. One of my students purchased her all time favorite ballroom dance competition dress from them.

If you are of the "stone it yourself" mindset to give your competition costume a personal flare (and to save a lot of money), Dreamtime Creation is an affordable online outlet for purchasing Swarovski stones and all the equipment you need to properly attach them.

BALLROOM ADNACE SHOES:

Whether you are a beginner dancer starting to become serious about your craft, or a seasoned competitor, or somewhere in between, you will need dance shoes. There are not many locations in San Diego where you can try on a wide variety of different shoes for either Standard or Latin dance.

One of my favorite place to send students is Carmen's Dance Shoes. The staff is incredibly helpful, their selection is large, and their prices are reasonable.

If you already know your size for a specific company's shoe, and Carmen's doesn't carry it, my students have had good luck with Save On Dancewear .  They also sell dance competition costumes and accessories.
